Urban League of Nebraska recognizes businesses for diversity and inclusion

The 2014 Equal Opportunity Day Awards Luncheon was held on Friday, December 5, 2014 from at the Hilton Omaha hotel.

“The Annual Equal Opportunity Day Luncheon serves as a culmination for the year of employment programs and career development activities that the Urban League of Nebraska administers.  It also provides a venue for the public recognition of our partnering corporations and the community-based organizations that embrace diversity and inclusion in the workplace,” said President Warren, this year’s honorary chair.

Mutual of Omaha and the Urban League of Nebraska recognized three corporations and organizations for their contributions to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and in our community.

  • For their investment in the North Omaha community, this year’s Corporate Diversity and Inclusion Award winner was Wal-Mart.
  • For its focus on serving low to moderate-income individuals and a belief that every child should have the opportunity to receive a quality education, American National Bank received the Corporate Outreach Award.
  • For helping young girls fulfill their vision for a bright and healthy future, Girls Incorporated of Omaha was the winner of the Community Organization Award.

With over 225 professionals and supporters in attendance, we are proud to call this year a success, and look forward to continuing that trend next year where we will continue the growth of diversity and honor new organizations.

This year’s keynote speaker was Sherrye L. Hutcherson, Vice President of Corporate Services and Chief Administrative Officer at Omaha Public Power District.
