Nominations for African-American Leadership Awards closing soon

AALA NominationNominations for the African-American Leadership Awards close by 5 p.m. Monday, March 9th.  The awards acknowledge African-American leaders for their successes and contributions to the city of Omaha.

Community members are invited to nominate leaders in eight different categories: Business, Community, Education, Faith, Government, Health, Young Professional (ages 21 to 39), and Youth (ages 16 to 18).  Nominations forms are available online at and at the Urban League of Nebraska Family Resource Center, 3040 Lake Street.

The 2014 honorees were Othello Meadows, Business; Tim Clark, Community; Dr. Minnie R. Dacus, Education; Bishop Robert D. Tyler, Faith; Senator Tanya D. Cook, Government; Ira D. Combs, Health; Cydney S. Franklin, Young Professional; and Ashley L. Swift, Youth.

The recipients will be honored at the 26th annual African American Leadership Awards to be held Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Hilton Omaha.  A reception begins at 6 p.m. followed by the awards ceremony at 7 p.m.
