OMAHA, Neb. – More than 800 volunteers [spent] Friday helping out at nonprofit organizations around the metro area for United Way of the Midlands’ annual Day of Caring.
Outside the Urban League of Nebraska at 30th and Lake Streets, volunteers pulled weeds, sanded railings and spruced up landscaping.
Javier Alers, an access engineer for Cox Communications, swept branches and weeds off a sidewalk.
“It’s about the community,” he said. “They give so much to you. It’s payback.”
