The African-American Leadership Awards Planning Committee and the Urban League of Nebraska are accepting nominations for the 2013 African-American Leadership Awards. The AALA recognize the accomplishments and achievements of individuals in the African-American community who have made significant contributions to the City of Omaha.
Individuals are recognized in the following categories: Business, Community, Education, Faith, Government, Health, Youth (ages 15 to 18) and Young Adult (ages 19 to 21). Awards may be made posthumously.
A nomination packet is available at http://www.urbanleagueneb.org/aala-nominations/. The packet includes nomination criteria and a nomination form. The deadline for nominations has been extended to Monday, May 6, 2013.
Past recipients include Mildred D. Brown, Eric Butler, Judge Vernon Daniels, Reverend Dwight Ford, Michael Maroney and Dr. Rubens Pamies. A complete list of past recipients can be found in the nomination packet.
Award recipients will be honored at the African-American Leadership Awards Gala the evening of Friday, June 7th at the Hilton Omaha. A cocktail reception begins at 5:30 p.m. and is followed by the awards ceremony at 7:00 p.m. Individual general admission tickets are $50 and reserved tables of ten are $1,000.
