Last night, the Urban League of Nebraska hosted its annual Scholarship Reception. The League, along with Metropolitan Community College, The Urban League of Nebraska Guild and Young Professionals Auxiliary Groups, and Aileen and Thomas Warren, awarded an exemplary group of graduating seniors generous college scholarships!
Among the amazing individuals awarded was Mr. William Grixby III. William is a graduating senior at Omaha Bryan High School. Described by his principal, Robert Aranda, as a charming, down-to-Earth kid that’s got the “it” factor, William represents the cream of the crop of the impressive slate of students awarded at last night’s Reception.
His father, Mr. Grixby II, explained how since he was young, William strived to be great and different. It is this quality, William’s mother remarked, that’s made him a vibrant leader at Omaha Bryan. William is very involved. Still, he manages to be effective in all his activities. He is the captain of Bryan’s Basketball, Football, and Golf teams and has also participated in Honors Orchestra. He is so involved he gave up the Student-body President position at school to focus on other activities. His demeanor is calm and humble but his leadership capabilities are powerfully glaring.
William, his parents, and Principal Aranda also credit the Urban League of Nebraska Community Coach Program for helping William stay focused and build intrapersonal skills. Williams has had the opportunity to meet with his Community Coach Ke’Aria to discuss his school and life challenges. Principal Aranda appreciates the Community Coach program because it gives students like William the tools to turn intangible lessons into real achievements.
Urban League of Nebraska would like to congratulate all the 2019 Scholarship Winners and we wish you luck in all of your endeavors!
