Black and Brown Legislative Day

Tuesday, February 27th, 2018

Nebraksa State Education Association (NSEA)

In partnership with ACLU of NE, Black Men United, Civic Nebraska, Coalition for a Strong Nebraska and several other amazing organizations, the Urban League of Nebraska Young Professionals invite you to Nebraska’s 2nd Annual Black & Brown Legislative Day on February 27th, 2018Our goal is to help empower communities of color to bring their concerns about legislation that affects them to Nebraska Senators.

We have identified four topics that are currently of interest in the legislature that can/will affect Black and Brown communities. These topics are Voting Rights, Prison Reform, Education, and Budget. We will use these topics as focus areas for education on how bills become law, how to identify and engage legislators on important issues, and what testifying at a committee hearing entails. With these tools, we know we can make a meaningful impact in the realm of civic engagement in Black and Brown communities.

Please, if you need transportation to/from Lincoln and have dietary restrictions, don’t forget to mark it in your registration.

The bus will leave from the Urban League of Nebraska parking lot (3040 Lake Street, Omaha, NE) at 8:00am and will return at 3:30pm.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: We will have a pre-event training session 1 week before the event on Tuesday, February 20th, from 6pm to 8pm at the Urban League of Nebraska. This event will train you on all the information necessary to make the most of the legislative day and speaking with senators about your concern.
