Registration for the 4th annual Black and Brown Legislative Day is now CLOSED.

Last year, a phenomenal group of young people, allies, and advocates from Omaha came by bus to Lincoln to learn about the Unicameral, meet senators, sit in on floor debate and committee hearings. Many students attended and gained valuable insight into the legislative process. Some students were even able to have one-on-one discussions on bills that they are interested in. A group of students talked to Senator Pansing Brooks about LB120, which would require teachers and school staff to receive training on behavioral and mental health. OPS student Sanjaya was even interviewed by Channel 7 on their experience coming to Black and Brown Legislative Day!
The day was full of debates, hearings, learning more about public offices, and making a connection with our Senators. At the end of the day, one student said, “Today taught me it was easy to communicate with my Senators. Communication is key. If I want something changed, I have to communicate with my Senators.”
