Chicago Urban League Visit
On April 8th, members from the Chicago Urban League visited our facility. We outlined our programs, staff, and our plan for 2016.
Project Ready: Health and Wellness Day
The Urban League of Nebraska’s Whitney Young Jr. Academy held a Health and Wellness Workshop for high school students on Saturday, April 9, 2016. During the workshop, 20 students from various OPS schools were provided hands-on experiences to help learn basic health and wellness techniques and skills. Master Bridges Martial Arts Academy demonstrated self-defense and martial arts with students. Alfonzo Shade of the Charles Drew Health Clinic lead a discussion on “how to ask your doctor questions”. Students also made smoothies and yogurt parfaits with No More Empty Pots. They learned proper knife cutting techniques, how to blend produce and the basics of eating healthy.
2016 “I Am” Young Women’s Conference
The “I Am” Young Ladies Conference is a day-long event that inspires young women grades 7 through 12 to excel in their education. These students will meet successful female professionals and attend motivational workshops.
2016 Shop For College Fair
Students have the opportunity to meet with representatives from colleges from the Omaha and Council Bluffs metro area and across the state of Nebraska. The fair is open to the public and will provide information regarding the application and admissions processes as well as scholarship opportunities.
