Black History Month (February)
The Urban League of Nebraska proudly celebrates Black History Month and has partnered with the University of Nebraska Omaha Office of Multicultural Affairs and Black Studies Department to bring culturally relevant and engaging events to the community.
Economic Empowerment & Employment Expo (April)
The Urban League of Nebraska annual Economic Empowerment and Employment Expo provides jobseekers with the critical tools and resources necessary to obtain employment earning a livable wage and become self-sufficient. This annual event is a prime recruitment platform for the Omaha metropolitan area and features more than 30 area companies.
The African-American Leadership Awards Gala (AALA) celebrates and honors African-American leaders for their accomplishments and contributions to the city of Omaha in the following categories: Business, Community, Education, Faith, Health, Young Professional (ages 21-39) and Youth (ages 16-18). The inaugural ceremony was held in 1989 at what is now the Durham Museum and honored Mildred Brown, Founder and Publisher of the Omaha Star, and Bertha Calloway, Founder of the Great Plains Black History Museum. Since 2009, the Urban League of Nebraska has coordinated the event and is honored to preserve the legacies of Omaha.
Striving for Success Summit & Luncheon (September)
The Striving for Success Summit is a free day-long conference that inspires African-American males entering high school (the 9th grade) to excel in their education. African-American males are at-risk for failing to graduate from high school, being under-employed and being over-represented in the criminal justice system. The young males meet successful African-American professionals and attend motivational workshops.
Annual Membership Meeting (December)
The Annual Membership Meeting is a time for the leadership and membership of the Urban League of Nebraska to recognize the contributions of members, elect new officers, and present important information about the league.
Equal Opportunity Day Awards Luncheon (December)
The Equal Opportunity Day Awards Luncheon acknowledges companies and community organizations who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the principles of equal opportunity by embracing diverse workforces and inclusive workplaces.
