2016 General Election Deadlines:
The 2016 Election will take place on Tuesday, November 8th. Voters must be registered before they can participate in the election.
Monday, July 11, 2016: First day to accept Early Voting ballot request for the general election. Monday, August 1, 2016: Constitutional & Initiative Petitions – Last day to file petitions. Last day for new political party to submit petitions with the Secretary of State to qualify for the General Election. Thursday, September 8, 2016: Absentee Ballot Request Deadline by mail: Last day to issue and mail special absentee ballots to those registered voters with applications on file specifically requesting a special absentee ballot. Friday, September 23, 2016: Deadline to have Early Voting ballots ready and sent to UOCAVA (Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act) voters with requests on file. Monday, October 3, 2016: Deadline to have Early Voting ballots ready for delivery by mail. Publication of application required after ballots are available. Friday, October 21, 2016: Voter Registration Deadline (most methods). Last day to register online or by mail (6:00 p.m.) Last day to mail an early voting ballot with a mail-in registration application form to a person not registered to vote. Click here to register to vote online. Tuesday, October 25, 2016: Last day to accept a mail-in registration with an illegible postmark. Friday, October 28, 2016: Voter Registration Deadline (absolute). Last day to register to vote in-person at the Election Commission Office. The Douglas County Election Commission is located at 225 North 115th Street, Omaha, NE 68154. Also the last day for write-in candidates to file a notarized affidavit and filing fee with the filing officer. Wednesday, November 2, 2016: Last day to request an absentee ballot. Must be requested by 4:00 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2016: Last day for in-person Early Voting at the County Clerk or Election Commissioner Office. Tuesday, November 8, 2016: Statewide Primary Election Day. Polls open from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Deadline for agent to pick up early voting ballot (7:00 p.m) and to return early voting ballot to election commission office or drop box location (8:00 p.m.)
Rides to the Polls:
On Election Day, the Douglas County Democratic Party is offering rides to the polls, ballot delivery and pick-up, and additional voting assistance for those who cannot get to the polls. Call 402-558-5912 to reserve a time on November 8th.
