Meet our President:

Thomas H. Warren, Sr.

President and CEO

Urban League of Nebraska, Inc.

 

 

Thomas H. Warren, Sr. is the newly appointed President and CEO of the Urban League of Nebraska, Inc. as of January 2008.  He will serve as the Chief Executive Officer under the direction of the Board of Directors of this 80 year old organization which is an affiliate of the National Urban League. 

 

Mr. Warren most recently served as the Chief of Police with the Omaha Police Department after his appointment to the position in December 2003.  Mr. Warren led the largest law enforcement agency in the State of Nebraska, which is composed of 807 sworn officers and 196 non-sworn personnel.  He managed an operating budget of $90 million, and he served a population of 414,000 residents in the city limits.

 

Mr. Warren worked in a variety of positions with the Omaha Police Department, including Police Operations, Support Services, and the Office of Professional Standards.  In 1999, Mr. Warren was promoted to the rank of Captain and was assigned to the Information Services Section. He was responsible for several support units, including:  Crime Analysis, Fiscal Affairs, Information Technology (I.T.), Fleet & Facilities, Research & Planning, Customer Services, Data Processing, Records, and the Telephone Report Squad.  He was the “Manager on Record” when OPD achieved National Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in March of 2001, and, as Mr., has guided the Department through re-Accreditation efforts in 2004 and 2007.  Mr. Warren was responsible for the implementation of laptop computers in our mobile patrol cruisers, and has worked in the Uniform Patrol Bureau as Commander of the Northeast Precinct. 

 

Mr. Warren graduated from Morningside College, in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1983 and joined the Omaha Police Department during the same year. He earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, with a Second Major in Sociology and a Minor in Psychology.  He also obtained a Masters of Science Degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) in 1989, with a Major in Criminal Justice and an Option in Public Administration.

 

Mr. Warren’s other achievements include his graduation from the FBI's National Executive Institute Leadership Development training program, Session 30.  He was also appointed to the National Board of Directors of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies

 

Mr. Warren was assigned to the Office of Professional Standards, where he was primarily responsible for the Background Investigations Unit and coordinating the selection process for police officer candidates.  Also, he has worked in the Criminal Investigations Bureau as a licensed, certified polygraph examiner.

 

Mr. Warren is a member of several professional organizations, and he has an extensive record of community involvement.  He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), the Nebraska Crime Commission, and the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Program-Midwest Region.  He serves on the Board of Directors of the United Way of the Midlands, the UNO Alumni Association, Conference for Inclusive Communities (CFIC), and the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council (DVCC).

 

Mr. Warren has received recognition for his community involvement, which includes: American Red Cross-Heartland Hero Award, Omaha Public Schools A+ Award, NAACP Community Service Award, University of Nebraska at Omaha Citation for Alumni Achievement, and the American Bar Association Community Service Award. Mr. Warren is Coordinator of the Omaha Police Athletic League, and he was inducted into the Boys and Girls Clubs of America National Alumni Hall of Fame in May 2004.  At an induction ceremony on March 10, 2007, Mr. Warren was inducted as a 2007 Member into Omaha’s Technical High School’s Hall of Fame.  He will also be a 2008 recipient at the 19th Annual African American Achievement Awards presented by an Omaha based community organization.

 

Mr. Warren’s Family is comprised of his wife, Aileen, and their three children, Jessica, Thomas Jr., and Alexandra.
